Tales from the night sky of Tenerife, brought to you by the guides of the stars!
Confessions of an astrophotographer!
With Peter Louer

So, the summer is over and we can say goodbye to the best of the Milky Way, we are lucky in Tenerife as the core of the Milky Way is visible right the way through to early December, albeit very low in the sky so some spectacular shots are still possible.

Now we can look forward to the delights of the Autumn and Winter nights and in particular the return of the constellation of Orion, which has some of the brightest and most beautiful Nebulae in the night sky, perfect if you are just starting out in Astrophotography.

I have listed the main Nebulae of Orion in one of the photos accompanying this blog.  At the moment Orion rises just after 1:00am almost due east, but by this time next month with the change of the clocks it will rise just after 10:00pm You don’t need a telescope to capture the Nebulae but you will need a tracking mount as to get the best out of them an exposure of 30+ seconds will be needed, the picture above of the Orion Nebula was taken with a 45 sec exposure using a 350mm lens on my Canon 600D, then processed in Photoshop to bring out the details.

You can come on my astrophotography classes with Dark Skies Tenerife Guide right now and begin expanding your knowledge and taking shots like the ones on here.

Arrive on your first day and be picked up from Tenerife South Airport.  Spend the day relaxing in the pool or jacuzzi at Casa El Zaguan in Vilaflor Spains highest village and at night join us on a stargazing excursion including dinner and drinks, a cava sunset and laser guided tour of the stars from the foot of Mount Teide in The National Park at over 2000m altitude.  Your second night is dedicated to astrophotography in the dark skies park of Teide national park.  Learn the techniques to capture stunning photographs of the Milky Way and beautiful starry nights, set against a background of prehistoric rock formations and pine forests with me.  Also included on your last day is a morning or afternoon of studio workshop where I will show you how to edit and enhance your raw photo files on your laptop using photo shop or similar software. Great for anyone from beginner to enthusiast!

I look forward to seeing you all soon under Tenerifes Night sky.  Don’t forget to check back next week for more Star Stories with Stargazing Tenerife team but for now, that’s me signing off!
