Tenerife

Volcano Teide with Milky Way
Why Tenerife?

NASA has ranked Tenerife  among the world’s top three stargazing destinations, following Chile and Hawaii.  NASA describe Tenerife as a “Window to the Universe”. Thanks to its clear skies, low light pollution, and unique location, you’ll get breathtaking views of the cosmos all year round.

Prime Location: Situated at 28 degrees above the equator, the island offers a unique vantage point to see further south, making it possible to photograph the rich colours of the Milky Way’s core—something not visible from the Northern countries. From Tenerife, 83 of the 88 officially recognised constellations can be seen.

Starlight Certified Skies: Teide National Park is officially recognised as a Starlight Reserve, meaning it offers some of the best conditions for stargazing anywhere in the world.

Perfect Conditions: High altitudes, minimal cloud cover, and low humidity make Tenerife ideal for capturing stunning images of galaxies, nebulae, and the Milky Way.

High Altitudes: Mount Teide and the surrounding National Park provide elevated viewpoints above the clouds, ensuring uninterrupted views of the cosmos.

Protected and Crystal-Clear Skies: Tenerife’s skies are safeguarded by local laws to reduce light pollution, preserving the pristine quality of the night sky.  With minimal light pollution and over 300 clear nights a year, Tenerife offers exceptional conditions for stargazing.

Diverse Opportunities: From winter’s Andromeda Galaxy and Orion Nebula to summer’s Milky Way, Tenerife offers unique celestial sights every season.  The lunar-like landscape provides countless opportunities for nighttime landscape photography, known as Nightscape, enhanced by the striking and unusual rock formations.

World-Class Astronomy: The island is home to some of Europe’s most important observatories, drawing scientists and stargazers from around the globe.

By Day, Soak Up the Sun: Spend your days exploring volcanic landscapes or relaxing on the beaches, then let the stars take your breath away at night.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned astrophotographer, Tenerife has everything you need for an unforgettable cosmic adventure.
