From the first tours when we were taking people from our base in Vilaflor (Spain’s highest village at some 5000ft), we knew we had the potential to make it grow. Initially it was an idea as a trip for people who were staying in our B&B in Vilaflor. We were soon getting asked if we could sell to the masses of tourists in the coastal resorts of the south who were keen to see what a dark sky had to offer. So we got our first van and started doing a few pick ups from the hotels of the south coast.

The founder of the company and original guide Steve, started the Tenerife Astronomy Society and held some meetings at the vineyards of Vilaflor. Here he made his first contacts with some professional astronomers and astrophotographers and realised that Tenerife was emerging as The Destination for astronomers throughout Europe and indeed the world. Tenerife was officially recognised as the third best place in teh world to view the stars and NASA even described it as a Window to the Universe. Through the meeting Steve found his first guides and Astro Photographers and decided it was time to step it up a notch,
Steve started doing some dedicated Astronomy Holidays and recruited the services of Peter Louer to run some Astro Photography Courses. I was introduced to the company back in June 2018 and was immediately mesmerized by the sheer number of stars I could see from the caldera of Tenerife’s National Park all set against the backdrop of Pre-historic rock formations and the pine forrest. I had always been a keen amateur observational cosmologist and decided I needed to take my knowledge to the next level. As such ever since I have been studying Astrophysics and Cosmology with the ANU. Unfortunately my Math isn’t good enough to take it to PHD level nor to be a researcher, however, I have learnt about everything from our violent universe to the theoretical physics behind the origins of our universe, I love on a nightly basis imparting my knowledge of the stars and universe to our sunset & stars tours. I am constantly learning and don’t think anyone could ever know it all. Even the top minds in the world only know what makes up 5% of our universe (that’s the matter that you, I and everything around us is made of!).

We have come a long way from our beginnings. Our main event the Sunset and Stars tour was this month voted the No1 thing to do in the evening in Tenerife. We were so pleased to be awarded this accolade, as it shows that our tour is still the best.
We are now running a very popular 3 night Astro Photography course with Peter Louer including not just taking the shots (as he says the easy bit LOL) but also includes time with Peter showing you how to best process your shot, which is where the real art begins.
I am also expanding on our Astronomy Holidays. Now including a tour of Tenerifes Observatory and a trip in the cable car up mount teide!
